Last time we looked at “Cute” pet beds, but if “cute” is not your thing, stay tuned because we’ll be looking at other options too. Today we’d like to show case a few of our “Modern” pet beds!  Like “Cute”, the term “Modern” could be applied to many of our beds. So let’s try to narrow our scope. First let’s consider what makes a pet bed “modern”. One common understanding of “Modern” furniture is a design and aesthetic that is functional and sleek, often embracing technical innovation, new materials, and a departure from more traditional design.

We’ve been talking about gates quite a bit over the last few weeks, and a lot of those gates have been elegant wooden gates that look like lovely pieces of furniture in their own right. Our top selling gates are all wooden gates, and it’s easy to see why – not only do they do their job well but they also look great in your home while they do it! For most dogs these stunning gates are a great option, but there is one important group of furry friends that these may not always be the best choice for: Puppies!  Puppies are adorable, wonderful additions to a family, but as anyone who’s raised a puppy knows – they are also quite the handful! Pet gates are a great option for keeping those potty-training bundles of love and mischief from getting into areas of the house that they aren’t ready to be let loose in yet, but when you are shopping for pet gates you should keep in mind that many puppies have a tendency to chew on, well, just about anything they can wrap their mouths around! Like all kids, most puppies will grow out of this troublesome habit; but until they do, having a beautiful wooden gate in your home may take a little extra effort on your part. To make sure your young pet doesn’t gnaw unsightly teeth marks into your wooden gate you should keep an eye on them for awhile after the gate has been set up to see how they handle it. Although some pets will leave the gate alone, others may need to be trained not to bite into the wood, or you may have to use things like Bitter Apple spray to discourage them from sinking their teeth into it while your back is turned. If you’ve got a particularly tenacious chewer though, you may want to consider choosing a metal gate instead – at least until they’ve grown out of their chewing phase. It’s not always about the chewing though; with their clean look, sturdy durability, and competitive prices, some people simply prefer sticking with steel! As versatile and popular as freestanding gates are, sometimes a gate that stands on its own is not the best option. With dogs that are larger, or have a tendency to lean, jump at, or otherwise test the stability of their boundaries, a pressure mounted gate may be the best choice. These gates are designed to fit tightly into an opening with enough tension to prevent even the most stubborn of pets from pushing through them. These gates are wonderfully stable and secure while their rubber stoppers prevent them from damaging your walls. These gates come in a wide array of options including both steel and wooden varieties and can span a wide range of openings (extension pieces may be needed). And all of the pressure mounted gates we currently offer come with walk through doors that can be opened and securely fastened closed again with a single hand.

However, the pressure required to secure a gate in place does work best in smaller spaces, especially hallways and doorways, so pressure mounted systems may not work for particularly wide openings. In those cases, you may have to use a wall mounted gate option. We have those too, and these have convenient walk through gates as well! With wall mounting brackets to hold them in place, these gates won’t be going anywhere no matter how much your pet tries to sneak past them! But an easy to use door with a one-handed locking system will let you slip through any time you need. One other advantage to this design is that some wall mounted gates are designed to accommodate unusually shaped openings, such as two walls that are not aligned, or to create a bay-window type shape that can provide your pet with a little more space and add a touch of visual interest to an otherwise utilitarian piece of furniture.

And what about for those sometimes occasions? Your pet is allowed free range of the house in most cases, but you’d like something less permanent and bulky that you can take out for holidays and special occasions then store again later. We have recently added Freestanding gates with walk through doors. These gates stand on their own and can be collapsed down for storage, but while they are set up they offer a walk through gate door that swings in both directions and automatically locks at both the top and bottom when you close it. Need to pass by several times setting things up before people get there? That’s ok; this helpful gate will stay open when you set it at 90 degrees so you don’t have to fuss with it when you don’t need to!

As much as we love our pets, sometimes there are places in our homes that we need to restrict access to for the safety of our pets or various other concerns. However closing a door is not always the best option. Sometimes there is no door such as in hallways or conjoining rooms, other times it makes a space feel too dark and closed in. But Dog Beds and Crates has a solution for you: GATES! We have a wide selection of pet gates to fit a variety of needs and preferences.

Today we would like to focus on one of the most popular features we offer with our pet gates: the walk through door. Sure there are gates that can be stepped over or moved aside, but a walk through door makes moving from one room to the next easy and convenient. A walk through door creates easy access that is particularly useful in walkways that are used frequently, homes with children that may be too small to move or step over other gate options, or in situations where you would like to be able to grant easy access for your pet when you wish to. Here at Dog Beds & Crates we have several wonderful gates that offer this useful feature.

Our most popular walk through gates have a hinged-panel design that allows you to set them up in several different shapes and their ability to stand on their own when set up in a stable design allows you to place them in a wide range of places – even in the middle of a room! This versatility lets you use these gates as a freestanding gate to close off a walk way, or set up as a room divider to block out areas in a large space, or even shape them into a pet pen enclosure. No matter which design suits your needs, these gate come with a walk through door that is easy for humans to open one handed, but which lock into place and prevent your pet from passing.
